Why More Content Wasn't the Answer — Finding Your Level 10 Buyer: Case Study Featuring Mary Whitman Ortiz

What happened when Mary stopped chasing the next platform and finally found the missing bridge.

There’s a version of this story you’ve probably lived.

You’ve built things. Real things. A podcast. A body of work. Resources and tools and years of showing up. You’ve done the things the business world told you to do.

And somehow — it’s still not clicking.

Not because you’re not called. Not because the message isn’t real. But because something between your message, your buyer, and your paid offer is... broken. And you can’t quite see where.

That was Mary Whitman Ortiz.

Mary is a relationship coach and Christian sex educator. She’s been in business for nearly 12 years. She had a podcast. Books. 250 YouTube videos.

And she was baffled.

“I had so many pieces. They didn’t seem to be working, didn’t seem to be dovetailed well.”

When she found me, she wasn’t looking for another tool. She was actually interested in Substack — intrigued by the stability, the owned audience, the freedom from the algorithm roller coaster.

But then she saw something I’d written in an email….

Another platform will not fix your situation if you have a leak in your message or your marketing.

She stopped.

“I thought, I don’t want to chase after the next thing if there are issues I need to solve first.”

That’s discernment. That’s a Kingdom woman knowing she needed the right step — not just the next step.

What We Found Under the Hood

When Mary came into the Kingdom Business Audit, she filled out a detailed intake form before we ever got on a call. I go deep. That’s not optional for me — I need to see what’s actually there before I can tell you what’s missing.

And what I found when I looked at Mary’s website and her existing assets?

A messaging disconnect.

She wasn’t talking to her Level 10 buyer.

Mary’s heart was for Christian couples — she wanted to help them create fulfilling, mutual intimacy in marriage. Beautiful. True. Exactly what she was called to.

But the front door of her business wasn’t built for the woman who was most ready to walk through it.

I saw her. The woman at 2 a.m., researching on her phone in the dark. Exhausted. Lonely in her own bed. Carrying the weight of a marriage that had started to feel like a second full-time job. She’d already read the books. Listened to the podcasts. Done the retreats.

She didn’t need more tools. She wasn’t looking for a 12-topic marriage curriculum.

She needed someone to give her permission to exhale.

When I brought that back to Mary — “I think we should be talking to just the wife on the front end” — something shifted in her.

“That is so descriptive. I knew that another woman could see herself in that.”

That’s the Level 10 moment. When the description of your ideal client makes them feel like you’ve been reading their journal. Not their Amazon cart. Their journal.

The Problem Wasn’t the Platform. It Was the Foundation.

Here’s what I want you to sit with.

Substack is a vehicle. Your Business by God’s Design™ is the destination.

But putting a new platform in front of a broken foundation doesn’t build a profitable, impactful business. It just moves the problem to a prettier location.

I see this constantly. Kingdom women who are brilliant, called, faithful — spinning out on tactics because the foundation underneath them has a crack in it.

The crack isn’t always obvious. It rarely is. That’s why we can’t see it ourselves.

We are too close.

Mary had been in business for 12 years and couldn’t see it. That’s not failure. That’s the nature of proximity. You need someone with objective eyes and expertise to come in and see what you can’t.

That’s what the audit is for.

What She Built After

Once we identified the right woman to speak to, everything Mary had already built became useful again.

Some assets were ready to reposition. Some needed to go on the back burner. Some just needed the language to shift — from “here’s a tool” to “here’s a place to be safe.”

That’s how we built The Permission Room.

We took what Mary already knew — that women needed a safe space — and framed it with precision. Not just safe. Not just supportive. But a trust pathway. A biblically shame-free first step for the woman who has never let herself be known in this area of her life.

The free publication: a place to exhale. The inner circle: deeper teaching, monthly gatherings, private audio, anonymous Q&A.

The whole structure positioned as the front door to Mary’s higher-ticket work with couples.

One audit. One conversation. And 12 years of work suddenly had a home.

“To have a plan. To have a plan laid out in steps and doable, not overwhelming.”

That’s what clarity does. It doesn’t add to your load. It organizes what’s already there.

What This Means for You

If you’re reading this and something in your chest recognized itself in Mary’s story —

You’ve built things. Real things. And they’re not working together.

Maybe you’ve been wondering if Substack is the answer. Maybe you’ve been wondering if you just need better content, more consistency, a new funnel.

Let me say what I said to Mary before she booked:

Another platform will not fix your situation if there’s a leak in your message.

The leak isn’t always loud. Sometimes it looks like 12 years of faithful work that just won’t connect. Sometimes it looks like 250 videos and a podcast and a customer base that never quite reaches the level of woman you know you’re called to serve.

The audit finds the leak. Then we fix it. Then we build.
